Permanent Residence

Express Entry Entry is an online system introduced by the Canadian Government in 2015 which is used to manage Canadian permanent residency applications under three Federal Economic Immigration Programs.

Comprehensive Ranking System

Applicants are ranked on a system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), which determines who gets selected from the Express Entry Pool first. This system scores you based on four main factors:

  • Human Capital Factors;
  • Spouse and Common Law-Partner;
  • Skill Transferability; and
  • Additional Factors.

These factors take into account:

  • Age;
  • Work experience;
  • Education qualifications;
  • Language skills;
  • Adaptability;
  • Job offers; and
  • Spouse or Common-Law Partner.

The higher applicant’s scores on the CRS, the better their chances of becoming a Permanent Resident of Canada. The highest you can score on this system is 1,200 points.

There are several ways to improve your CRS scores, like receiving a Provincial Nomination that adds an extra 600 points. For example, a job offer from a level 00 job under the National Occupation Classification (NOC) will give you up to an additional 200 points. Any other job level (NOC A or B) offers from a Canadian employer will give you an additional 50 points.

Language skills are a great way to increase CRS scores. The higher applicant’s score on recognized French and English test like IELTS, TEF and CELPIP, the better the results. In total, language skills can add an extra 150 points.

Federal Skilled Worker

This program is for Skilled Workers with foreign work experience who want to immigrate to Canada permanently. In the Federal Skilled Worker Immigration Category, applicants from India and worldwide are granted permanent resident visas. The selection criterion in this program is based on the capability of the Skilled Workers to immigrate, support them and settle down economically in Canada.

Under this program, IRCC seeks to accept skilled workers into Canada to promote and maintain the diversity and skills of Canada’s labor force.

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is governed as per the Express Entry program which has certain steps involved.

All applicants in the Federal Skilled Worker Category (FSWC) need to mandatorily clear the minimum point requirement– 67 out of 100.

Once the applicant clears the points threshold, they create an online profile under the Express Entry pool of candidates. Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is used to assign points to applicants in the pool.

Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) has many selection factors including:

Demonstrate one year of paid Skilled Work experience or similar experience out of a total of the last 10 years in specified occupations (NOC- 0/A/B)

  • Age of the applicant (higher age gives lower points);
  • Level of education is considered (Education obtained in Canada is assigned higher points);
  • Language proficiency in French or English (one of the two official languages);
  • A full-time and permanent job offer from a Canadian Employer (LMIA);
  • Adaptability includes blood relatives in Canada, any ties to Canada, etc.

A draw is conducted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) and the highest ranked applicants are invited to apply (ITA). The chosen applicants have a period of sixty (60) days from the date of invitation to submit their permanent residence application.

After an applicant has met the eligibility requirements successfully, they need to demonstrate proof for their settlement funds. The applicant and their dependents need to successfully clear medical examinations from an approved physician.

In the Federal Skilled Worker Category, the last steps include smoothly clearing the criminal and security checks in the Canadian immigration process.
